Kölner Instacoll Base is an adhesive agent for interior and exterior gilding of gold and silver leaf. It is sold in 100ml bottles.

This Kölner Instacoll Base should be applied with a brush or a spray device. After allowing to dry (for up to an hour), the Base is receptive for gilding for up to an hour. If the Instacoll Base dries completely then it can be reactivated with Instacoll Activator. Apply a thin and even layer of Instacoll Activator over the base and after a few minutes the surface is ready for gilding again. A surface can be reactivated many times using Instacoll Activator. It is important to only apply the leaf when the surface is dry. Always avoid getting Instacoll Activator onto the leaf itself.

Kölner Instacoll Base is available in the following variants:

33264 = unpigmented (clear, colourless-transparent)
33271 = pigmented (yellow, with an opaque film)

The decision about the variant depends on the colour of the support, and the colour of the leaf metal. The clear Kölner Instacoll Base was developed for yellow or ochre-coloured surfaces.

The Instacoll system has been specifically developed for applying metal leaf, preferably gold leaf, outdoors. It minimises the risks through a clever 2-stage system: first, the clean surface is painted as evenly as possible with Instacoll BASE clear or yellow, and once dry you apply the activator and begin to apply the metal leaf.
